With over 20 years’ experience in subfertility, endometriosis and general gynaecology, Dr Bernadette McElhinney is well-positioned to provide expert support and guidance to individuals seeking fertility care. Her holistic approach ensures that each patient receives personalised treatment aimed at achieving the best possible outcome.
Dr McElhinney completed her medical degree in the UK at Queen’s University Belfast. When she finished her basic registrar training, she moved to Perth to gain experience in advanced laparoscopic surgery.
Dr McElhinney’s passion for women’s health has led her to provide seamless care across the full fertility spectrum. She has special interests in the treatment of endometriosis, menstrual disorders and preinvasive disease of the lower genital tract.
Dr McElhinney also works at King Edward Memorial Hospital, where she is part of the Endoscopy team, providing tertiary-level care for patients with endometriosis. She also serves as the lead clinician in the colposcopy service, offering care for patients with abnormal cervical screening results. As part of her work as a gynaecologist, she performs surgeries on her private patients at Hollywood Private Hospital and SJOG in Subiaco.
Dr McElhinney recognises the importance of teaching and mentoring junior colleagues, both formally and informally. She serves as an associate professor at Notre Dame University, regularly assisting with medical student tutorials and examinations.
